Taiwan Advice
- Camping grounds are limited.
- Eat at the Night Markets
- Taiwanese are very friendly and helpful.
- 7-Eleven convenience stores are everywhere. They are one stop shops for ATMs, WiFi, Toilets and food.
Taiwan - Touring
Taiwanese are very friendly and proud of their country. They value their independent freedom from Mainland China.
Cycling is well supported and very popular with the locals. It is a ‘must do’ for every ‘roadie’ to do the circuit. Hence touring the circuit fully packed is very easy and encouraged. (‘jiayou’ – go go go)
We found camping sites difficult to find, they are mainly located in tourist areas North and South of the island. Hence we stayed in accommodation which was readily available and inexpensive.
We did not carry very much food due to road side restaurants and 7-Elevens! (on every corner in every town). Our favourite eating place was at the Night Markets found in most large towns.
Taiwan Weather
February: Sub tropical rains from Taipei on the north to Daxi, mean temperature 18 C.
From Hsinchu City to south end of island; mostly sunny and mean temperature 22 C
March: East side Taiwan, mostly sunny and mean temperature 23 C. Overall, it was pleasant cycling weather, most of the rainy days was on the west coast, but rain was brief in the early mornings.
